This was one of our favourite experiences of our three weeks trip to Japan. Our hosts guided us through the lantern making process with thoughtful insights and tips and the two hour workshop flew by. There was a genuine warmth that radiated from all of them and their enthusiasm and conversation made the experience even more memorable. I had a great time during this activity, which is both a very interesting cultural experience and an opportunity to participate in the process of creating a work of art. Tommy's presence was a real bonus, as I was able to ask the craftsman questions about his work, his artistic interests, etc., despite the language barrier. All in all, it was a timeless and rejuvenating experience that will give you a window into the Japanese craft of lantern making while being in the hands of very friendly locals who are eager to chat! I highly recommend it.
